Hello and welcome to our South Hill Co-op Preschool! I am Cheryl Beene and so excited to be a part of this wonderful learning opportunity for children & families. In addition to over 30 years in the field as both a Center Director and Teacher, I have also been involved with several volunteer programs in the community, to include Cub Scouts, Autism Support Groups and various programs which assist individuals and their families. I have been married for 35 years to a retired Army officer and have 5 children -ranging from 34 to 13. We are known as the ” public safety ” family as our children have careers as a police officer, a firefighter and a nurse. We also have 4 grandchildren who always keep me on my toes. My youngest son has some challenges, to include autism and a connective tissue disorder. The family is, and always has been, a part of all he has become. He is funny, intelligent and a “poster child “for early intervention. He brings joy to everyone he meets. We couldn’t imagine our lives any other way. As a result of being involved in various community programs advocating for parents of a child with a disability, I feel as though I have a wealth of resources to share with anyone in need. I love helping others and my passion has always been with creating the very best learning environment for children. My ultimate goal is always…What’s best for the children? How can we guide them to be the very best they can be? My experience has been that children learn best through play. It’s so very important for them to have hands on learning experiences. Every minute counts in today’s classroom learning environments. I am excited to be a part of the team here and look forward to many fun filled years ahead with you and your children!!
